About the Societas

The Societas Humboldtiana Polonorum is the Polish Association of Fellows of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, whose main objective is to promote the development of science and to act for the benefit of academic education in Poland and abroad in cooperation with other similar societies and organizations, in particular the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. About the Congress

The goal of the Congress is the discussion between scientists from different countries about newest progress of science and its influence on the future of humans in the age of globalization. The subject of the Congress is the continuation of the former Congresses and Conferences of the SHP:

  • „Limits of Knowledge” (SHP-Conference, Kraków 2017),
  • „Longevity – a Blessing or a Curse?” (10. SHP-Congress, Łódź 2016),
  • „Ethics in Science and Life” (SHP-Conference, Toruń 2015),
  • „A Secure World” (9. SHP-Congress, Poznań 2013).

During the Congress the Session of young researchersand the meeting of the members of the SHP will take place.

Session of Young Researchers

The Congress intends to encourage participation of young scientists and to promote the presentation of outstanding papers submitted by young PhD or PHD students. For this reason, a number of young participants will be sponsored and their admission fee will be waved. Depending on the quality of the submitted short papers, 40 student participants are planned to be sponsored.

It is a tradition of the SHP Congress to honor the best paper presented during the Session of young researchers. This event is organized as a poster session preceded by oral presentations (2 min.) with 1-2 slides summary in English. Each accepted paper is assigned to one of the following domains: Life Sciences, Social Sciences & Humanities, Physical & Engineering Sciences. Contributed papers are evaluated and approved for presentation by a Juryappointed by the SHP President. The same Jury grants 3 Young Researcher Awards – one Award for each of the above mentioned domains. Each Award winner will be granted a one month research stay in Germany by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). In addition, the Jury may distinguish several papers in each domain.

Each participant of the Sessionis eligible for the Award if she or he fulfils the following requirements:

  • is up to the age of 35;
  • is an author or the first co-author of a paper approved for the presentation;

For all participants of the Session of young researchersit is necessary to have recommendation of the previous holder of the Alexander von Humboldt grant.
